SEO That Drives Revenue, Not Just Traffic

Rankings and traffic are vanity metrics if they don't convert. Here's how to run SEO as a revenue channel.

An SEO and revenue analytics dashboard on a laptop screen

Plenty of businesses rank well and still don’t grow. The reason is simple: they optimised for traffic instead of revenue. Those are not the same channel.

Intent beats volume

A keyword with 10,000 searches a month is worthless if the searchers never buy. One with 200 searches from people ready to purchase can outperform it many times over. Map keywords to intent first:

  • Informational, learning, not buying yet
  • Commercial, comparing options
  • Transactional, ready to act

Your money pages should target commercial and transactional intent. Informational content earns trust and feeds them.

Technical foundations still matter

No amount of content fixes a slow, unstructured site. The non-negotiables:

  • Fast Core Web Vitals on mobile
  • Clean, crawlable structure and internal links
  • Correct structured data so search engines understand your pages
  • Canonical URLs and no duplicate content

Measure the metric that pays

Track rankings if you like, but report on organic-sourced leads and revenue. When SEO is tied to pipeline, it stops being a cost centre and becomes a channel you can confidently invest in.
