AI for Research & Content

Advanced 10 min read Lesson 29 of 31

AI can dramatically speed up keyword research, content planning and drafting — if you drive it with a clear process and keep a human in charge of quality and accuracy.

Where AI genuinely helps

  • Keyword & topic ideas — expand seed keywords, cluster them, and surface subtopics and questions.
  • Content briefs & outlines — turn a target keyword and the top competitors into a structured brief in minutes.
  • First drafts & rewriting — draft sections, then edit heavily for accuracy, voice and depth.
  • Meta titles & descriptions — generate options to test.
  • Summaries & FAQs — extract key points and likely questions.

The human-in-the-loop rule

AI is a fast intern, not an expert. It invents facts (“hallucinates”), lacks real experience, and writes generic prose. Your job is to add real expertise, examples, data and voice, and to fact-check everything. Publishing raw AI output is the fastest way to thin, unhelpful content that Google’s Helpful Content system demotes.

A good AI content workflow

Good: Research with tools → AI drafts an outline from the top results → you add expertise, examples and data → AI helps tighten the prose → you fact-check and publish.

Bad: Type “write a 2000-word article on X” → paste the output → publish. Thin, generic, and often wrong.

A reusable content-brief prompt

“You are an SEO editor. For the keyword [X], analyse the search intent, list the H2/H3 sections a comprehensive article needs, the questions to answer, entities to mention, and 3 title options. Do not write the article — just the brief.”

Constraining AI to a brief (not the full article) keeps you in control of the actual writing, where expertise and E-E-A-T live.

Pro tips

  • Use AI for structure and speed; use humans for expertise, examples and accuracy.
  • Always fact-check AI claims, statistics and quotes — it confidently invents them.
  • Feed AI your own data, transcripts and notes so the output is specific, not generic.

Common mistakes

  • Publishing unedited AI text — thin content that Helpful Content updates target.
  • Trusting AI facts and figures without verifying them.
  • Losing your brand voice by letting AI write everything end to end.
Summary

AI accelerates keyword research, briefs, drafts and metadata, but it is an intern, not an expert. Keep a human in the loop to add real expertise, examples and accuracy — and never publish raw AI output.
